Betsy Keefer Smalley, LSW, researcher and foster parent trainer with the Institute for Human Services in Ohio, leads this pre-service course for individuals who want to become foster parents. Child Abuse and Neglect focuses on understanding child physical abuse and neglect, and developing empathy for birth parents. It was eye opening for sure. It is always a good thing to have more education on this subject. It broke my heart to see the abuse, but we have to have the best information possible so we can do the best possible for the children.
