Sex trafficking is a difficult issue to discuss, but it is becoming more and more relevant, especially to parents of children in care. While estimates vary, anywhere from 50% to more than 90% of the children who have been trafficked have been involved in some way with the child welfare system. This class explores commercial sexual exploitation of children, what it is, and how parents can recognize signs that a child is being sexually exploited.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • recognize warning signs of commercial sexual exploitation
  • dispel myths about human trafficking, including sex trafficking
  • describe victim blaming
  • understand the grooming process
  • identify risk factors and vulnerabilities for commercial sexual exploitation
  • know parenting strategies for preventing child sexual exploitation

Thank you for putting this together. It really helped bring to light how close to home trafficking can happen.
