However, children in care face unique educational challenges as a result of the complex trauma they have experienced and a lack of resources and support. This course explores how resource parents can help youth in grades 6 to 10 overcome obstacles, prepare for postsecondary education, and achieve their educational and career goals. (For parents in California, this course is equivalent to Turning Dreams into Degrees, Education Course 1.) At the end of this course, you will be able to: understand the unique educational challenges youth in foster care face understand how to help youth plan for postsecondary education understand the difference between fixed mindset and growth mindset describe the five stages of changing a behavior identify a variety of educational pathways, including 4-year universities, 2-year community colleges, and vocational training programs know the education planning milestones for middle schoolers, 9th graders, and 10th graders Excellent course, and I found it very informative to assist my foster youths in their journey for postsecondary education.
