Many youth in care have experienced sexual abuse and trauma and have been exposed to unhealthy relationship behaviors. This course explores healthy sexual development in children and teens and how parents can support youth by providing a safe and supportive environment to discuss sexuality and sexual health and wellness.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
describe sexual health and sexuality
define sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex assigned at birth
have age and developmentally appropriate conversations with younger children and teens using everyday moments
make prudent parenting decisions related to youth’s sexual health and wellness
help youth recognize the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships
understand the impact of trauma on youth’s sexual health and wellness
