May 17, 2012

Eugene, OR — Children in care who have been sexually abused present emotional and behavioral issues that can challenge even the most experienced foster parents. Some children suffer in silence, some deny the abuse, and some act out in sexually inappropriate ways.

In this new course on FosterParentCollege.com, Betsy Keefer Smalley, LSW, and Richard Delaney, PhD, provide insight into the world of sexually abused children and offer guidance in caring for these children.

Among the topics discussed are:

  • definitions and types of abuse
  • dynamics of sexual abuse
  • characteristics of abused children
  • safe parenting of sexually abused kids.

FosterParentCollege.com provides interactive online training for foster, adoptive, and kinship parents. There are over 30 courses available at this time. Titles include Substance-Exposed Infants, Child Abuse and Neglect, Grief and Loss in the Care System, Culturally Competent Parenting, and Child Safety and Supervision.
